growingSTEMS ID Cards

growingSTEMS students, mentors, volunteers, and parents will be issues physical ID cards upon their affiliation with the organization. These ID cards will contain information that identifies the individuals, indicates their roles on in the organization, and facilitates access to The Hive.

These cards can be programmed to interact with the RFID reader located in the lobby and near the front exit of The Hive. Swiping the card at the reader in the lobby will log the individual into the entry system and unlock the main door to The Hive. Swiping the card at the reader near the front exit to The Hive will log the individual out of the entry system.

Color Scheme

The role of each particular individual can be immediately identified based on the colored stripe at the bottom of the badge.

A blue stripe indicates that this individual is has some level of responsibility in the growingSTEMS organization overall, rather than simply to one specific program. For example, a member of the Board of Directors or a program coordinator who reports to the Executive Director. These individuals can usually provide access to most areas of the building and can typically answer most questions about growingSTEMS

A green stripe indicates a mentor or volunteer who typically supports a single program in growingSTEMS. These individuals are typically responsible for program participants and have undergone their program specific training required to safely support program participants.

A yellow stripe indicates a registered participant in a growingSTEMS program. In the case of FRC and VEX IQ, these are students. In the case of combat robotics, these can be students or adults.

A red stripe indicates a parent or another community partner who is associated with the organization. This individual is provided with access to The Hive, either to support their program participant or to better facilitate coordination between growingSTEMS and another organization.

Displaying Badges

ID cards are not usually required to be displayed while participating in growingSTEMS activities. Typically, the organization encourages that individuals display these badges during events at The Hive that are open to the public, so as to better distinguish visitors from those individuals associated with growingSTEMS. ID cards may also be used to show affiliation with growingSTEMS, which may be valuable when partcipating in certain events that take place outside The Hive.
